Da-Lata bags are handmade in Brazil from 1000's of ring pulls from discarded cans using traditional crochet techniques. Over 91.5% of commercialized cans in Brazil were recycled last year. This percentage is equivalent of 12,3 billion cans or 165,800 tons of cans (32,6 million per day or 1,4million per hour), making Brazil a world leader of the sector for the 8th year consecutively. The ring pulls are collected by the "can pickers". These activities are now supported by the Brazilian government and recognized as an occupation. This has allowed many disadvantaged women to form Co-operatives and support themselves and their families through trade.
